California community college enrollment drops
California community colleges saw an enrollment decline of about 21,000 students this year. Chancellor Jack Scott attributes the drop to the state budget cutbacks that forced colleges to eliminate courses. The 112 community colleges serve more than 2.9 million students. Demand for its courses is up as displaced workers seek new job skills and students elect to complete their lower-division classes in two-year schools before transferring to UC and CSU.
